A week or so into something is when I start to lose my steam 😑 Like yesterday. I didn’t get the blog up. I start to cut corners a little bit, I’m not quite as enthusiastic, and even with something like this little daily blog, I think, “Eh, no one is reading it anyway…” One of my personal goals during Lent was to write more, which helps me emotionally and mentally, and making it public helps me stay accountable. It’s kind of like meeting a friend at the gym; it’s a lot harder to get out of it when others are a part of your process.

It got me to thinking about how easily we give up on stuff not necessarily because it’s hard – but maybe because it becomes inconvenient. What’s funny is, at least in the spirit of my Lenten theme of “using what you have,” it’s not like we don’t have what we need to do things we have promised to do. You don’t need anything to fast from sugar. You don’t need anything to put the phone away at 8pm. You don’t need anything to take the 30 minutes a day you have decided not to scroll your phone and walk dogs at the shelter. You already have everything you need … except discipline.

Do you keep a to-do list? I keep a to-do journal! 📝 I bullet journal in my own way, and I have a few sections for things, like appointments, schoolwork assignments, to-dos, and what I call my “Daily 16” which are 16 things I want to accomplish each day (for example, walk my dogs, strength train, my French lesson, meditate, read some non-fiction, and so on.) There are always things on my lists I don’t get to. And so I roll them over to the next day. Some of these things have been rolled over for months 🫣 I keep avoiding doing them. Either they bring up feelings for me that I don’t want to deal with or they are just inconvenient.
🕊️
Today, let’s do some of the things we’ve been avoiding to practice some Lenten discipline.
We can do it together 🤍
